David Contreras, son of Macrina Cardenas Contreras/Healing First Therapeutic Massage here at BIC, will be one of 8 runners from the US to compete at the World Mountain Running Championship in Canillo, Andorra (a tiny country between Spain and France) in the Pyrenees Mountains on September 16, 2018. David, 17, will be running in the Junior Division. He will be representing Team USA, an official part of the USA Track and Field organization, the same organization that selects members for all running World Championships and Olympic Games. (info here: https://www.wmrch2018canillo.com/en/)
David was selected with 3 other boys and 4 girls, based on past running times and experience (info here: http://www.usmrt.com/). He is the only male from Colorado (Illinois, Arizona & Utah were the other 3 boys), but all 4 girls are from Colorado.
Most of the runner’s costs are covered by Team USA, but David did have some fundraising. His mother, Macrina, is selling punch cards for discounted massage to raise money so she can attend the race with him. She will also be volunteering on the race site.
