The weather gods were smiling down on Palisade Basecamp RV Resort last week as they hosted Palisade Chamber members and invited guests to a Grand Opening of the new campground on a sunny, warm and windless Wednesday afternoon.

Letting his hands do much of the talking, John Sabal of the Palisade Cafe 11.0 explains to Brian of the Green Junction Organic Farmers just how the paella is made. It is a specialty of John’s at the Cafe.

About 150 guests enjoyed a special ‘presentation’ of his paella specialty by John Sabal of the Palisade Cafe 11.0, as they sipped different varieties of the Talbott’s new hard cider products as well as a number of local beers and wines poured by Carrie in the Tipsy Trailer Mobile Bar. Music by Shaun Ray entertained guests as they mingled on the lawn of the Group Camping area and toured the rest of the Basecamp campus.

Guests appreciated music provided by Shaun Ray for the Business After Hours, adding to the ‘party’ atmosphere.

The RV Resort boasts about 80 RV campsites with full hookups, meaning that they supply water, electricity and sewer connections at each site. There are also 14 tent sites right on the bank of the Colorado River under big, old cottonwood trees that are just beginning to fill in with summer foliage. The tent sites each have electric outlets so that ever-present telephones will not go silent!

Maria Johnson of Grand West Kia had just joined the Chamber that day and won a great door prize as well.

The Tipsy Trailer and the Talbott’s Traveling Cider Show were popular gathering spots for guests, serving up a selection of local beers and wines that were generously donated by the makers.

Owned and built by local couples Bart and Brooke McElley and Keith and Brandi Ehlers, the new Resort will help to supply much-needed lodging to Palisade guests. In addition to all the tent and RV sites, the Resort also has 8 brand new cottages for nightly rental, each sleeping four guests. Four more larger, six-person cottages are planned for later this year. A swimming pool is under construction and a dog park is still coming this spring as well. With one of the nicest shower houses ever and a laundry room and camp store, this campground is really ‘Five-Star’.
