SPECIAL EVENTS

Bluegrass at the Blue Pig:  Calling all artists, the month of October will be Bluegrass at the Blue Pig and we want to encourage all local artists to submit a Bluegrass Poster design for the 2018 Festival, which will be our 10 Year Anniversary.  Submissions are due to the Blue Pig by October 3rd.  Community voting will take place from Oct 3-Oct 20th, with the Bluegrass Art Reception on Friday, Oct 20th.

Trick or Treat Street & Harvest Fest: The Annual Halloween Event will be held on Friday, Oct 27th starting downtown Palisade from 3:00 PM-5:00 PM with Trick or Treat Street & Touch a Truck.  Then the event will move over to Riverbend Park for Harvest Fest from 4:00 PM-9:00 PM.  Palisade Rec is seeking vendors for Harvest Fest, applications are available at Palisade Town Hall or you can also email Sarah at sbrooks@townofpalisade.org for more info.  If you have a cool truck or utility vehicle, we would love to add you to our Touch a Truck line up, which is free to participate in, all you need to do is supply your own candy to handout to trick or treaters.  Contact Palisade Rec if you are interested.

Harvest Fest Glow in the Dark 5K:  New to the Harvest Fest line up this year is a Glow in the Dark 5K Fun Run also on Friday, Oct 27th starting at 6:00 PM in Riverbend Park.  The Fun Run is put on by the CMU Sports Management Program as a fundraiser for their club.  Early registration is $15.00 per runner and it includes comped admission into Harvest Fest and early registration is available online at https://supportingcmu.org/2017-sport-management-5kEarly Registration ends on Oct 25th.  Runners are welcome to register at the event, but the fee increases to $20 per runner and does not include Harvest Fest Admission.

GET ACTIVE:  

Yoga on your Back: Feeling stressed? Enjoy one hour of yoga on the floor, moving through a series of gentle stretches that will improve flexibility and reduce back pain.  This gentle yoga workshop will take place on Saturday, Oct 21 from 9:00 AM-10:00 AM at the Palisade Community Center.  Registration is $10.00 per person, register by Oct 16.

TOTS PROGRAMS

Strider Camp (Ages 2-4): Little tykes can learn the basics of riding from balance and steering, stopping, and bike safety on a balance bike without pedals.  Strider Camp will be held onTuesdays 10:00 AM-11:00 AM at the Palisade Gym from Oct 3-Oct 24.  Registration is $18.00 for kids that hike their own bike and helmet or $24.00 for kids that need to rent gear.  Register by Sept 28.

YOUTH PROGRAMS

Walk to School Day: October is National Walk to School Month, and the Town of Palisade would like to encourage kids and families to walk to school as a huge group on Wednesday, Oct 4th.  The group will meet at the Palisade Community Center between 8:00 AM-8:20 AM and then depart by 8:30 AM to walk over to Taylor Elementary.  The group will walk via the designated safe route to school with assistance by Palisade PD and Palisade Fire.  Fire trucks will also be parked at the Community Center for kids to get a touch a truck experience.  All participants will also get stickers.  Bikers also welcome.

Youth Karate (Ages 5-12): Weather new to Karate or continuing on from another level, Iron Mountain Karate caters to kids of all ages and levels.  The next karate session will begin on Oct 3rd and will run Tuesdays & Thursdays at 5:30 PM through Oct 26.  Registration is $40.00 per child, call 464-5602 to enroll by Oct 2nd.  Classes are held at the Karate Studio on Troyer Ave.

 Harry Potter Yoga (Ages 10 and up): Hogwarts of Palisade invites Muggles to dress in their house colors, practice their Patronus, and get ready to cast spells with a wizarding yoga session on Thursday, October 12 from 4:15 PM-5:30 PM at the Palisade Community Center.  Participants will also have a chance to make their own wands before we start the yoga class.  Parents are also welcome to join in the fun.  Registration is $10.00 per person, enroll by Oct 5.

 Pirate Party Treasure Hunt (Ages 6-11): Youth are invited to venture through uncharted obstacles and solve clues on a pirate themed scavenger hunt on Thursday, Oct 19th from 4:00 PM-5:30 PM throughout the downtown area.  Participants will be dropped off and pick up at the Palisade Community Center.  Costumes are encouraged, but tennis shoes are required. Registration is $5.00 per person, enroll by Oct 12th.

 ADULT PROGRAMS

Gray Gourmet: Meet new friends or catch up with old friends each week at the Gray Gourmet meal, every Tuesday at the Palisade Community Center.  Doors open at 11:00 AM and themeal is served at 12:00 PM.  Participants are welcome to come at 11:30 AM for dominoes or cards.  Advanced reservation is required, to reserve a seat call 243-9844 X1.  Join Palisade Rec at 11:30 AM on Sept 19th for basic stretches and exercises.  Plan to exercise for about 10-15 minutes.

Tile Painting @ Talbott’s: Once again, the Town of Palisade is trying to raise funds for the new Skate Park project; this time the goal is to raise enough money to add a shade structure, drinking fountain, and a park bench.  Community members are invited to add their own creative charm to the skate park by painting a tile.  The first session will take place onWednesday, September 27 from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM at Talbott’s Cidery.  Registration is $30.00 which includes tile painting, light refreshments, and cider tasting.  Cider by the pint will also be available for purchase at the event.  Register by Sept 21.

GET OUTDOORS

Monday Morning Hiking Club: Palisade Rec just started the Fall hiking Series join us for the next hike on Monday, Sept 25th with a 3 mile hike on Pet-E-Kes trail in the Lunch Loop area.  The group will meet at Palisade Town Hall at 7:50 AM and depart by 8:00 AM.  Hikers should dress in layers, wear sturdy shoes, pack water, and snacks.  Grand Junction pickups can be arranged, but must be scheduled by 3:00 PM on Sept 21st.  Registration is $4.00, and drop in registration is available.  Dogs Welcome!

Gateway Day Hike: Check out the spectacular red rock views of Gateway Canyon on Friday, Oct 13th with a 4-5 mile hike in Gateway and a few short stops to look at Rock Art.  The group will meet at Palisade Town Hall at 7:30 AM, departing by 8:00 AM.  Participants should pack water, snacks, lunch, wear sturdy shoes, and dress in layers.  Registration is $10.00 per person, enroll by Oct 9.  Dogs Welcome!
