And the grand prize winner is………David Cecuga, a.k.a. Colonel Bower of historic Palisade. What a masterpiece! In period dress that added to the effect, Cecuga was a shoo-in for the Overall category in Wednesday evening’s Beard and Mustache contest sponsored by Palisade’s Cen-Ten Committee. Judging was held at the Peach Street Distillery at 7 p.m., but contestants had been working on their tonsorial productions since last winter in some cases.
Winner of the best beard went to Simon Schmalz, and best mustache winner was Palisade Fire Chief Richard Rupp. Although Rupp has been sporting a mustache for years, he grew it extra long for this spring’s competition. Hope he doesn’t get too close to a fire…
Winners received tickets to this weekend’s Bluegrass and Roots Festival in Riverbend Park.
The Cen-Ten is Palisade’s centennial-plus-ten years, celebrated with a birthday barbecue at Peach Bowl Park on April 4 of this year. The Cen-Ten Committee is sponsoring various events throughout the year to celebrate 110 years of living in Palisade.
