A number of residents who live on Main Street and adjacent streets attended a town Main Street reconstruction information open house on Feb. 26 at the Palisade Community Center.
A street map showed access routes for residents as construction proceeds on Main Street. The map was prepared by Ben Dowd Contracting, Inc., Clifton.

Frank Watt, Palisade Public Works director, reviews Main Street reconstruction plans with Sharon Somogyi, a Main Street resident. Somogyi attended the town’s informational open house about the project on Feb. 26 at the Palisade Community Center.
The target date to complete the project is June, ahead of the Bluegrass music festival and ahead of the Sunday Market. The street will be reconstructed between 3rd Street and 8th Street/Highway 6.
Reconstruction will include underground utilities, such as electrical lines and irrigation pipes.
“We would like to make sure that everyone traveling through Palisade is aware that access to the Veteran’s Memorial Community Center and Palisade Memorial Park will be limited during construction,” the town website reports.
“To access the parking lot of the Community Center you must enter by way of the alley off of Kluge Avenue behind the Skate Park. On-street parking will not be allowed on Main Street for the duration of construction.
“If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Public Works Director Frank Watt at (970) 464-1116 ext. 6402 or fwatt@townofpalisade.org. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this process!”

Ray Powell, a flagger for the Main Street reconstruction project, directs traffic on Feb. 27. The length of Main Street was busy with crews and contractors in the initial stage of the project. The target date to complete the project is June.
How about some mention of the businesses that are on Main Street. We all will be open during the construction and it would be nice to let people know! This construction not only effects the residents (which will be greatly effected,) but the retail businesses, as well. It’s kind of interesting how you focus on Town things like the Community Center. How about thinking about the SMALL businesses that support the town. Where do people park? How do they get to 3rd and Main from Hwy 6? We need all of the help we can get – this road construction shouldn’t be the focus of your articles – keeping Palisade viable and vibrant through the construction should be!
Hi Renee
Thank you for your comments and they are dully noted. I’m not sure where all the focus on Community Center is coming from.
The Town of Palisade has been pro-active in placing signs on Hwy 6, Kluge and on Iowa directing
visitors to alternate routes downtown as well as “Open For Business Signs”. We are in the process of posting an article about the ribbon cuttings held last week
for the new locations for the Palisade Chamber of Commerce and the Lavender Lady. The local media has done reports on the downtown project and has interviewed
local business owners to get that very message out. We will take every opportunity to address your concerns. We also are asking everyone downtown to utilize their
own social media resources to get the word out. We all need to be a part of the solution. Our spring festivals will be effected but we will use our marketing efforts to get visitors downtown.
Thank you again.
