Palisade Parks and Recreation would like to invite you all to “Settle into Winter” and get into the festive spirit of this wonderful season with a few winter-themed programs for adults and youth.
While the weather in the Grand Valley took an unusual turn, dropping in temperature much sooner than most people planned for, the fact that winter is coming is inevitable, and with winter also comes the holiday season.
Chocolate and Coffee Tour
Each holiday season we sample an assortment of sweets and frequently turn to delicatessen candies as a gift for that special someone we find difficult to shop for.
The Grand Valley is fortunate to call home in Grand Junction to World Famous Almond Toffee from Enstrom Candies, and to roasters Colorado Legacy Coffee. Delight your taste buds, warm up for winter, and find that perfect holiday gift with a unique Coffee and Chocolate Tour on Tuesday, Dec 9th.
Participants will meet at Palisade Town Hall at 9:30 AM and leave to tour Enstrom’s, seeing how the ever-popular toffee is made, then learn about the history of the candy maker. Next, the tour will head over to Colorado Legacy Coffee roasters to learn about the roasting process. The tour is sure to be educational and tasty!
Registration is $4.00 per person, and open to adults ages 30+. Reserve your seat by December 3rd. Grand Junction participants are also invited to enroll, with a meet up location at Enstrom’s.
Glacier Ice Trip
This time of year parents are looking for ways to keep their kids active and to provide fun festive opportunities that help to calm the overzealous anticipation and countdown to Christmas Day.
Ice skating is an excellent way to capture the holiday spirit and get out some extra pent up energy from lack of outdoor play this time of year. During the Wednesday early release time for elementary schools, Palisade Recreation will take youth in grades 1st-5th for an afternoon of ice skating at the Glacier Ice Arena in Grand Junction on Wednesday, Dec 17th. It will begin with student pick up at 1:150 PM from Taylor Elementary.
Whether parents need after school supervision of youngsters or are in desperate need of an extra shopping day, send them to the rink! Transportation will be provided to and from Palisade, with the program ending in Palisade at 5:00 PM.
Registration is $20.00 per child; reserve your seat by December 11th.
Holiday Lights Tour
Wrap up the fall/winter recreation season with a lights tour of the most spectacular holiday light displays in the Grand Valley. Driving around town to see the lights has always been a holiday tradition in many households, which is typically enjoyed more by the passengers than the driver. This holiday season, let Palisade Recreation do the driving so you can truly enjoy the decorations and twinkling lights.
The Lights Tour will be held on Thursday, December 18th, beginning with cocoa and cookies at 5:30 PM at the Palisade Fire Station, leaving at 6:00 PM. The tour is open to adults and families. Children joining the tour must be a minimum of six years of age and accompanied by an adult. Registration is $6.00 per person, which includes transportation, cookies, and cocoa. Space is limited and seats go quickly so reserve your seat by Dec 5th.
