Have you visited the Skate Park located in Veterans Memorial Park? It looks a little outdated, and the Town of Palisade is working with design team, Grindline Skate Parks to design and build a brand new park in the same location, with a projected completion date in 2017.

On April 7, 2016, GOCO announced that the Town of Palisade will be receiving a mini grant for the planning process, which will also be matched with funds from the Town of Palisade and the Palisade Lions Club.

In order to get the ball rolling, the Town of Palisade is seeking public input at two separate public planning meetings, both to be held on Thursday, April 21st.

The first meeting will take place at Palisade High School at 3:00 PM, and this meeting will be catered specifically towards middle school and high school students. During this time, students will get to meet with the design team in an intimate setting, brain storm ideas, see concepts from similar parks, share their own ideas, and learn about the whole public process when a new park is built. Through this youth planning process, it is the goal of the Town and PHS faculty that students will take an active interest in building a new park, and thus take ownership of their park so it will last for several generations. Students in the IB program will also be actively involved in marketing, fundraising, and planning. In effort to get middle school students involved, the Town of Palisade is offering free after school shuttle transportation from Mt. Garfield to PHS for the first 12 students to register, contact Sarah Brooks at 464-5602 to get your name on the list.

The general public is invited to a later meeting on April 21st, which will be held at the Community Center at 6:00 PM. During this time citizens and park users can give their feedback, share ideas, and see some conceptual designs. Light refreshments will also be served.

If someone cannot make the meeting, they are encouraged to friend the Facebook Page Palisade Skate Park Design at https://www.facebook.com/SkatePalisade/ and share their feedback or interact with other future park users. Citizen feedback can also be sent to Sarah Brooks at sbrooks@townofpalisade.org or Frank Watt at fwatt@townofpalisade.org.
