Spring break is almost here and it is time to prepare for the change in season and change in activities. Get a jump start on all the new opportunities that are presenting themselves everywhere as the sun is coming out. If you are looking for something to keep your teens busy and ready them for summertime employment, spend spring break in Palisade at our Teen Leadership Summit.
Palisade Parks and Recreation will be hosting its first Teen Leadership Summit this spring break. The summit is a great opportunity for teens to stay busy over the long break with a variety of encouraging, fun and motivating activities. Through the summit sessions, teens can expect to gain critical thinking, problem solving, decision making and teamwork skills while having a good time. Participants will engage in thought provoking, play games such as the minute-to-win-it challenge, and hear from guest speakers from a number of different backgrounds.
Jesse Stanford, from the Palisade Police Department, will give a lecture on why it is important to be a leader when it comes to decision making. He’ll give examples of this through his many experiences in Palisade. Palisade Recreation will also bring in Diana Barnett, Assistant Coordinator of Career Services at CMU, who will give an informative speech on how to nail an interview and land a summer job. Diana will discuss the different ways to find summer employment, tips on interview techniques and resume pointers. The average time spent by recruiters looking at resumes is six seconds. Diana will help students learn how to avoid simple mistakes and give hints about the eye catching techniques that recruiters look for. Teens will be prepared this summer with a cleaned up and professional resume that will give the edge needed to get a job. Putting down that this summit was attended will already make a resume better.
With help from the owners of Palisade’s local businesses, mock interviews will be held to give the teens some hands on interviewing experience. Teens will learn how to properly answer the tough questions that employers have. This summit can especially help those who haven’t held a job before or haven’t had interviewing experience by giving them real job scenario exposure with actual employers.
Summer is approaching quickly and this is a great way to prepare for the job hunt. The summit will be held in the Palisade Gymnasium during March 24th – 26th from 9:00AM – 12:00PM. Registration is $32.00 for all three days of the summit, enroll by March 13th. Call the Town of Palisade at 464-5602 to register or visit our website for more information www.townofpalisade.org
